Hillary Theme: Spinning with Poor Taste

Hillary Clinton supporters supporters have such poor taste they chose a song from Celine Dion as her campaign theme song. It wasn't actually even a song, but was created for Air Canada as an ad tune. It was contract work (something Hillary's chief advisor knows a thing or two about).

But it gets better, check out the lyrics:

I'm burning, yearning
Gently turning round and round
I'm always rising up I never
Want to come back down

Remember, this is a song for Air Canada (a foreign company, at tha). It seeks to tap into the emotion of people who just want to go somewhere, but don't care to come back down to end up anywhere. It isn't about a goal, just about hearing voices saying to keep running. A song written to be an ad that talks about Spin and Ambition for the sake of it -- maybe Clinton supporters don't have poor taste, just know their candidate well...

it's a painful song (none / 0)

to listen to.

I suspect the video with the MUCH better journey song will get more exposure.

no one on TV will want to play this song on air

you mean Fleetwood Mac? (none / 0)

I actually found (online) a rip-roaring version of Don't Stop that I used for a Bill Clinton event in '03. It roared, not bad guitar solo, way better than the studio. Plus you had the added bonus of the audio audience which pumped up the in house audience even more.

I actually didn't mind Don't Stop in '92, it seemed to go well with the Big Dog's hoarse voice during the closing days.

Sorry, I can keep her music straight about as well as her position on Iraq (for; somewhat opposed; indefinite vs. Fleetwood Mac; Journey; Celine Dion).

Don't Stop Believing, is Journey, and that was the song played throughout the clip, which I love.  But this song, sucks, the one chosen.

Wasn't that you who was going to emigrate to France if Clinton was going to be nominated?

"Reading Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" in the bistro "Chez George" on the south side of the Seine, Tarheel reminisced longingly about the summer of 2007, when his days were carefree and unencumbered.   "Why, oh why have you forsaken me," he cried out, angrily pointing at the sky.   Some Parisiennes stopped in their tracks briefly at the sight, then, walking on, muttered under their breaths  "Merde, damn Americains."

Discover? I had great admiration right up until she blew health care, started triangulating, and proved she has the opposite of coat tails. She's not going to change my mind just like she's not going to change any others.

That's alright, I live in a blue state so she won't need my vote if the dipshits who would vote for a canadian ad jingle as a campaign song get their way.

And she has plenty of money so she won't worry about me and my buddy getting more than a hundred of our friends together for a low dollar fundraiser like I did for Kerry (even we both had supported Dean).

Plus, I'll be too busy trying to protect down-ballot candidates from the stampede.

But it will be just desserts knowing her supporters and staff have to listen to this crap every time she takes the stage.

And four years ago I was very condescending to anyone dumb enough to support Lieberman (who, what was that, was in a three way tie for third?).

And I was also very condescending towards the dipshits who wanted to go with the DLC candidate instead of Jon Tester (right again, the DLC candidate had more than twice as much money and yet was stomped by 26 pts.). So I'll continue to take my chances and call is as I see it when it comes to the dipshits who are dumb enough to support the DLC candidate because they know more about them this far out.

Hillary is a joke, her supporters have proven they have no taste and if she is elected we'll get stomped down ballot, have no chance for single payer, and we'll still be in Iraq when she's voted out of office.

I may not know grand, but a Celine Dion jingle for an ad agency is certainly crap (and in close competition with Bryan Adams for the worst sound to come out of Canada).

And I like some Canadian musicians. Neil Young wails. The Guess Who. The Band. Rufus Wainwright, Leonard Cohen.

Instead of the best America had to offer she outsourced it to the worst Canada.

So people support Hillary because like her they lack spine and bend easily to pressure. Some, because they aren't paying attention and know her name. Some because they are on the payroll.

But anyone not in an above category who is on a political blog supporting her this far out is more than likely a dipshit.

It is a good thing there are so few dipshits (according to blog polls) -- it speaks as highly to the progressive blogs as todays announcement speaks poorly about the taste of Clinton supporters.

This is an ad agency jingle, not a piece of art.

Re: Who would have thought? (none / 0)

A non-referentialist considers the "meaning" of the music as something that is inherent in the music itself, not the verbal or other extra-musical attachments. So, verbal associations, or even the identity of the commissioning identity are largely irrelevant when it comes to the emotional impact of the music on the listener. It's a testable premise: if the words or other extra-musical associations could express all there is to express, then why bother with the music?

That is all fine and good and all, but this "issue" was really worth its' own diary?   Tarheel started his own hit-diary on this song, and the point that "the song was originally created for Air Canada" would have made a great one-liner there.   To turn it into a diary theme seems excessive somehow.

Re: Hillary Theme: Spinning with Poor Taste (none / 0)

What? Come on Michael, you were here for the last nationwide election to influence the future of the Democratic Party (DNC Chair race).

Multiple what Roemer and Fowler received by a 100 and that is what Hillary should have coming. And you know something, that worked. We won. And with that we got the fifty-state strategy that won back the House.

When it comes to losing the House (along with tons of down-ticket races) and ending the fifty-state strategy with Harold Ford or some of loser as DNC Chair under Hillary, it makes sense that we need even more due diligence.

The debate isn't academic, there are real-world implications. Another four years in Iraq and no chance of single-payer along with electoral devastation is just cause to fight to win.

If your cause is just it makes this particular diary an even bigger waste.

This I know: any of the Democratic Party candidates will be a damn sight better than our present reality or the republican's future wishes.

The republicans don't need anyone's help in diminishing the level of discourse to that of a bunch of junior high school Heathers.

You got a candidate you like? Fine, do your damnedest promoting their issues and stands. Even better, throw in as much republican bashing as you  like. But this crap? It doesn't do anything for your just cause - and it caters to everything that's wrong with the republican opposition.

You should be able to do better. A lot better.
